Donnie Wahlberg & More Celebs React To The Red Sox’s World Series Win

L.A. Dodgers

Total domination is complete.

The Red Sox took the best-of-seven series 4-1.

Los Angeles are still looking for their first championship since 1988. But the veteran first baseman hit the game-tying home run in Game 4, and put the Red Sox on the scoreboard with another home run in the first inning of Game 5. For the series, he pitched 13 2/3 innings, giving up three runs. He adds [Eduardo] Nuñez and [World Series MVP Steve] Pearce and then [Ian] Kinsler and then Nate [Eovaldi].

"We are a bunch of grinders", Pearce said, "and this is exactly where we knew we were going to be".

"When you say that it's nearly overwhelming", Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said.

Really, you expect to get beaten by guys like Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez (who both also homered in Game 5). In seven innings, he gave up four runs on seven hits - three of which were home runs - and struck out five.

Despite all the good David Price had done in his stellar career that started with the Rays, the rap was that he couldn't win the big one.

Pearce powered Boston's offense through the final two games of the series, collecting seven RBIs on three home runs and a double to lead his team. Joe Kelly finished the eighth.

For a long time, Price had been known for his playoff shortcomings, having never won a game. His last RBI came in Game 1 of the World Series, hours shy of his 22nd birthday.

"It's very special. Seeing all these grown men over there, just acting like kids, that's what it's all about", Price said. Only the Yankees (27) and Cardinals (11) have been more successful, and Boston is now tied for third with the Athletics.

Pearce is headed to free agency, but after the thump he provided against left-handed pitching this year, the Red Sox should be hot on his trail.

They finished the Major League Baseball season with 108 wins, a record for the team founded in 1901. Only the 1998 Yankees (125) and the 2001 Mariners (120) captured more games.

Shortly after hoisting the World Series trophy above his head Sunday night, he had a new request for the Boston brass. They will have to decide what to do with Clayton Kershaw-the ace whose diminished fastball velocity now almost matches that of his slider-particularly if Kershaw opts out of the two years and $65 million remaining on his contract. "Myself personally, it was tough. We were unable to get past that hump", Machado said. "I think that kind of lit a fire under everybody", Red Sox infielder Brock Holt said. "It will be an eventful three days for me, and I'll try to figure it out". The Red Sox lost just once away from Fenway Park, and it took the Dodgers a record-setting 18 innings in Friday's Game 3 to prevent being swept.

Hard to believe now, all these wins later, but the Alex Cora Era in Boston began with a loss.

Los Angeles won 92 games in the regular season and defeated the Atlanta Braves in the National League Division Series and Milwaukee Brewers to win the NL pennant.

"I can't say enough about what Clayton - what our guys did", manager Dave Roberts said. "That's not easy to do". They thrived in their role, and Cora not only looks like a genius, but a genius who will soon have another World Series ring.

Hill held the Boston Red Sox in check for most of Saturday's game and took a 4-0 lead into the seventh.

The locals have now gone three decades without a World Series title, a span where other LA teams including the NBA's Lakers and the NHL's Kings have won multiple championships.
