Florida governor and senate races are too close to call

Democratic Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum tells his supporters that the best way to respond to his GOP

The race between Republican Ron DeSantis and Democrat Andrew Gillum, who would be the state's first black governor, has been fraught with racism.

The final stretch of the midterm campaign is increasingly dominated by debate over one of the most sensitive issues in American culture: race.

"Some of this is generationally driven. As governor, I will represent all the people", DeSantis said.

Corey's emails, meanwhile, show that in an earlier trip to Costa Rica, Corey placed a hold on a bill for Gillum's share of the costs, and that the amount he was to pay for the trip was more than double the $400 the mayor said he took out from his bank account to pay for the vacation.

That's when the discourse between DeSantis and Gillum turned nasty. "It was disappointing to see it disintegrate into personal attacks, and it makes it hard for people who are encouraging civic engagement".

However, the Florida Commission on Ethics is, in an unrelated investigation, examining records about two trips Gillum took in 2016.

"All we're simply saying is that they can keep $5.3 billion but we deserve a billion of that to come into this state" for education, he said. DeSantis went after Gillum, the mayor of Tallahassee, Fla., for lying about receiving a ticket to the musical, "Hamilton", from an undercover FBI agent investigating his office for corruption.

But an email from Corey to Brice Barnes, a campaign finance consultant who was helping Gillum at the time, indicates that Gillum was aware of Miller's help. It's playing out against the backdrop of President Donald Trump, who has tapped into racial anxiety with warnings of rampant violence in urban areas, voter fraud, a caravan of migrants and unknown "Middle Easterners" threatening the USA southern border.

"I met him for the first time the other night and then all of a sudden, without invitation, he was calling me only as Andrew". Though the texts seem to dispute this claim, Gillum continued to maintain it after the records were released, saying his brother handed the tickets to him the night of the show.

"Mike Miller" (an undercover Federal Bureau of Investigation agent): "Looks like the weather might not be great tomorrow".

Gillum's expression immediately after DeSantis retorted, without explanation, that Gillum "always plays the victim" is also worth savoring, because these days it is rare to see a malevolent politician made to feel as stupid as they are while speaking on live television. "I'm for police accountability, but law enforcement society can not work and, quite frankly, law enforcement can not do its job if it does not have a trusting relationship with the community", Gillum said.

"I should have asked more questions to make sure that everything that transpired was above board", Gillum said, before quickly trying to switch topics. Gillum said he supports a referendum on the ballot next month that automatically would restore voting rights to most ex-cons. DeSantis shot back. "I am not going to bow down to the altar of political correctness".

He also pointed out that the National Rifle Association endorses DeSantis, as has President Trump. "They will stop people from investing in Florida".
