Kohli moves past Tendulkar to become fastest to 10,000 ODI runs

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma during the first ODI in Guwahati

Some years ago, Tendulkar, after scoring his 100th worldwide century, said he would love to see an Indian - someone like Kohli or Rohit Sharma - break his records. Such has been his insatiable thirst to ammas runs that it has become nearly imperative that he will break records whenever he saunters out to the middle. The actress took to social media and shared the moment from today's cricket match with all "heart" emoticons. Yes, he was dropped by Jason Holder, but barring that blip, it was a flawless innings. The Indian captain has bettered the record by a very big margin of 54 innings.

The 29-year-old surpassed fellow Indian batting great Sachin Tendulkar, who first crossed the 10,000-run mark in 259 innings in 2001. Rahul Dravid was the previous fastest in terms of career span (10 years, 317 Days). In terms of innings to reach the 10,000-run mark, he is 21% better than Tendulkar; in terms of average and innings per century, he is 40% better; his strike rate advantage is relatively lower at 7%. Over his career this was the seventh time, he scored a century in successive innings which is yet another unique record. The film has exceeded expectations and emerged as the sleeper hit of the year. A prime example of that came during his innings during the last ODI where he smashed a belligerent 157* in sweltering conditions but still ran every run as hard as he could for the sake of the team.

Virat Kohli registered 1000 plus runs in the 2018 in just 11 ODIs thus making him the quickest to the landmark. Tendulkar also won more Man-of-the-Match awards, but that is, to some extent, also a factor of the quality of his team-mates during that period.

However, Ashley Nurse had Dhawan trapped in front of the wicket after a West Indies review went in their favour. He equalled the record of former England captain Andrew Strauss with two scores of more than 150 as a captain.
