National Basketball Association brawl mars Lebron James' LA Lakers home debut

Rockets spoil James' home debut in fight-marred game

Anthony Kiedis and Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers attend a basketball game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets at Staples Center on October 20, 2018 in Los Angeles, California.

Chris Paul, Rajon Rondo and Brandon Ingram weren't the only people ejected during Saturday night's brawl between the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center.

"I think I had seen five Rockets players, two of our guys", Ingram added, describing what prompted him to run back into the scrum.

Play-by-play announcer, Mike Breen, mentioned on the air that Paul was incensed because Rondo spit on his face.

Paul claimed Rondo caused their fight by spitting on him.

Paul could be seen pressing his fingers into Rondo's face before Rondo threw a punch at him, leading to a scuffle where Ingram also threw a punch at Paul. The league has not made any announcements yet. He began serving the suspension Sunday night when the Clippers played the Rockets. Rondo will be docked a total of US$186,207, while Ingram's total is US$158,816.

Paul and Rondo both left the court nearly immediately following the skirmish.

Footage has since emerged showing Lakers star Rondo spitting at Paul, sparking the ugly confrontation between the pair. He then re-inserted himself into the situation, throwing a wild punch that could have done serious damage had it connected. Rondo responded by throwing a punch at Paul, but he did not connect with it. Paul retaliated with a punch of his own which hit Rondo in the jaw.

After the game, Rondo's former Boston Celtics teammate Paul Pierce said on ESPN that he was not "surprised at all" by the fight.

The fight could leave with both teams without key rotation players due to suspension.

Any game of NBA basketball right now that features Lebron James in an L.A. Lakers uniform is going to have all eyes on it, especially when his team is losing. I understand that. We'll go on.
