New Emoji Are Coming to Your iPhone in the iOS 12.1 Update

iOS 12.1 will enable dual-SIM functionality on iPhone XS, XS Max, XR

Apple didn't explain why this planned feature had been delayed, but promised it would appear "in a future software update later this fall".

Originally announced and beta tested as part of iOS 12.0, Group FaceTime saw a slight delay that pushed it back into iOS 12.1.

Depth control was previously available in iOS 12 on compatible iPhones, but what's new in 12.1 is that the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR can now perform depth adjustments live in the camera's viewfinder before a photo's even been taken. If you haven't been following what the update brings to the table, we've highlighted some of iOS 12's more exciting features below. A simple tap also brings a participant front and centre.

"FaceTime changed the way people communicate and share important moments, and now with Group FaceTime, it's easy to chat with more people than ever before - from 2 to 32 people". If you've got one of these devices, head into Setting General Software update to download iOS 12.1.

Among the most annoying bugs that will probably be crushed by iOS 12.1 is the "beauty-gate" issue.

Having a conversation with that many people involved sounds like a management nightmare, but Apple came up with a few ways to keep things running smoothly.

One new feature of the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR is that each device offers dual SIM support. Even though iPhone's Portrait mode still struggles to work accurately with curly hair, etc., I feel like this is probably the biggest feature for me in iOS 12.1. Apple adds: "With iOS 12.1, users can now dynamically adjust the depth of field in real-time preview in addition to post-capture, enabling more control to create portraits with a lovely background blur".

Portrait mode with Depth Control is also available on the TrueDepth camera for selfies, which includes Memoji and faster face tracking support for third-party ARKit apps, the company wrote.

iOS 12.1 is overall a fairly nice upgrade to iOS 12, which was already a major release that refined a lot of the problems that was introduced with iOS 11. China is the only market where Apple will launch a different version of the new iPhones with two physical nano SIM card slots.
