Trump Tweets, 'I Rarely Use a Cellphone,' From His iPhone

US officials believe China and Russia listening to Trump's calls

President Donald Trump reportedly continues to use his personal iPhone for business instead of a more secure government-supplied device, despite ample evidence that China and Russian Federation have hacked the phone and are eavesdropping on his calls.

If the USA is still concerned about security, Trump could "abandon all modern communication devices and cut off contact with the outside completely", Hua said. Carriers across the world use the technology to link their networks together, but unfortunately the SS7 protocol can also be exploited by spy agencies to tap phone calls, collect text messages, and track people's locations.

The Chinese are said to be using information picked up from monitoring Trump's calls to figure out who he listens to the most.

During an appearance on CNN after Trump's tweet, New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman said the paper stands by the story, adding: "The story was not boring".

"My reaction to this New York Times report is that certain people in the United States really have been sparing no effort in their pursuit of an Oscar for best screenplay", Hua told reporters Thursday.

The US President has reportedly been warned that his three personal iPhones are not secure, though he continues to use them to take calls with friends and confidants, reports the Times.

The daily reiterated that calls made by President Trump to his friends through these cellphones are being listened and analysed by the Chinese and the Russians.

The Washington Post reported in June that a federal study found signs of sophisticated mobile phone spying near the White House and other sensitive locations past year.

Regarding her suggestion that Trump use a Huawei instead of an iPhone, this appears to be a sly reference to the U.S. government forbidding its agencies from using any technologies or services from the Chinese company. Trump, however, ridiculed the idea in a morning tweet.

But despite China's amusing reaction, the NYT report raises serious alarms in regards to both President's Trump understanding of security protocols, but also the mobile telephony protocols, through which Chinese and Russian spies are allegedly spying on the president's mobile calls.

Indeed, all 76 tweets President Trump posted in the past week so far have been sent from the iPhone Twitter app.

The President's phone security "follows industry best practices and is closely managed under government supervision in conjunction with recommendations from industry partners", Gidley said.

Of course, it's not necessary to actually bug the president's phone if he's going to simply chat over an unsecured line.
