Marc Elias: 'Election Stealing Lawyer,' According to Trump

As Scott announced his lawsuits, questions began to be asked about ballot papers which did not clearly indicate how to vote in the Senate election.

In a call with reporters Thursday, Nelson's lawyer, Marc Elias, said that the race now stands as a "jump ball" as counties around the state canvass their votes, but he believes Nelson will prevail in the end. Scott, the state's outgoing governor, held a 0.21 percentage lead over Nelson on Thursday afternoon.

Scott's lawsuits accuse Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes and Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher of mishandling the ballot count and preventing observers from having full access as votes are counted. The office is under state monitoring. Scott's lead has been steadily shrinking in the Senate race as the state's largest counties continue to tally ballots that were mailed in or cast on a provisional basis on Tuesday.

"The reason why he feels that way is obvious: we believe when every legal ballot is counted we'll win this election", Nelson said.

As of Wednesday morning, DeSantis led Gillum by 43,039 votes out of almost 8.2 million cast, or a difference of 0.526 of a percentage point. But it is also possible that vote-processing machines in Broward suffered a technical glitch that caused them not to read Senate votes that were properly marked on paper ballots - and if that is the case, then a recount would very likely tip the Senate race to Nelson.

And one conservative congressman in Florida has taken matters a step further, calling for Snipes' removal.

He said that by 4 p.m. Friday, 52 of the state's 67 counties have already provided their returns to the state. Trump won the state in 2016 by 1.2 percentage points, and Scott's two races for governor were decided by similar margins.

Andrew Gillum - with his wife, RJ - is the state's Democratic nominee for governor.

Lawyers for Snipes argued that requiring such a swift response would interfere with ongoing efforts to finish counting Broward County ballots. Scott's lead over Sen.

"As soon as Democrats sent their best Election stealing lawyer, Marc Elias, to Broward County they miraculously started finding Democrat votes", Trump tweeted.

More news: Jeff Sessions Out at Trump's Request

"Every Floridian should be concerned there may be a rampant fraud happening in Palm Beach and Broward counties", Scott said Thursday. "Their goal is to keep mysteriously finding more votes until the elections turn out the way they want". The Palm Beach County suit alleges Republican Party representatives weren't allowed "to properly witness" processing of damaged absentee ballots. This was The Washington Post's headline: "After Trump and Scott cry 'fraud, ' critics pounce on Broward County's troubled election history".

It appears fears of fraud may not be unfounded.

"I am asking the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate this election immediately", Scott tweeted. A judge sided with Governor Rick Scott in his request.

Senator Marco Rubio, another Florida Republican, has also been an outspoken critic of the recount process, tweeting repeatedly about the controversy and earning Mr Trump's praise. "Let's blame the Russians and demand an immediate apology from President Putin!"

Are Florida's election officials merely incompetent, or is there a sinister plot afoot to throw the election results towards Democrats? "This isn't corruption or fraud", Becker said. "Obviously, there are shenanigans here".
