Order to kill Jamal Khashoggi came 'from the very top'

Forensics experts have questioned the theory, as they say disposing of a body using acid can take months.

Erdogan wrote: "As responsible members of the worldwide community, we must reveal the identities of the puppet masters behind Khashoggi's killing and discover those in whom Saudi officials -still trying to cover up the murder - have placed their trust".

"The Saudi officials seemed primarily interested in finding out what evidence the Turkish authorities had against the perpetrators".

"In the most recent information we have regarding the dismemberment, it was easiest to dissolve the body", he added.

And a joint statement from the delegation Thursday said, "As Evangelicals, it is our desire to lift up the name of Jesus whenever we are asked and wherever we go".

The claims came as Khashoggi's fiancée, Hatice Cengiz, called on world leaders to "bring the perpetrators to justice", in an editorial for five newspapers, including the Guardian and the Washington Post.

Trump has condemned Khashoggi's killing in strong terms but has also defended USA arms sales to Saudi Arabia, which is the biggest foreign customer for American weaponry. "This is what is understood from the prosecutor's statement", said Aktay, who was also close to the journalist.

What was said in the crown prince's alleged phone call?

Khashoggi, a Saudi critic and prominent columnist for the Washington Post, was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October.

Instead, the White House "has joined governments around the region in weighing what effect the stigma of the Khashoggi killing may have on the crown prince's ability to rule, and what benefit can be extracted from his potential weakness", the Times said, quoting people familiar with the administration's deliberations.

What has the investigation found so far?

Khashoggi died as he tried to arrange paperwork for their wedding, Cengiz said in a recorded video message that was played at Friday's event. Khashoggi, who had arrived at the consulate to obtain papers to facilitate his marriage with Turkish girlfriend Hatice, was in the Consul General's room when he was grabbed by the squad.

The outcry in the US demonizing Saudi Arabia over the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Kingdom's consulate in Istanbul threatens US-Saudi strategic ties, the former Saudi intelligence chief warned on Wednesday.

Turkish media had previously quoted sources as saying Turkey had audio recordings proving that Khashoggi had been tortured before being murdered. First came the insistence that the country had nothing to do with the disappearance of one of its high-profile critics.

She also slammed the United States, which shares economic interests with Saudi Arabia, on its inaction in condemning Saudi Arabia. "The Saudi regime can not be trusted to investigate this themselves".

Saudi Arabia has attracted global opprobrium for its handling of the case. But, as global pressure mounted, the kingdom said that the Washington Post contributor and critic of the Saudi government died inside the mission when an argument degenerated into a fistfight.

Trump has called the affair "one of the worst cover-ups in history", but warned halting a Saudi arms deal would harm United States jobs.

In an editorial published in five global newspapers, Ms Cengiz said Khashoogi had just bought a house and wished to start a family.

In her article, Cengiz noted that the one-month anniversary of Khashoggi's death fell on the UN's International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.

"We must all send a clear message that authoritarian regimes can not kill journalists ever again".
