USA urges return of Khashoggi's remains to family

Bill Gates cancels $5m aid to Saudi following Jamal Khashoggi’s murder

Turkish authorities do not believe this person exists, The Washington Post reported Wednesday, citing an unnamed official.

The US-Saudi relationship "is too big to fail", Prince Turki said.

After the journalist disappeared, Saudi Arabia initially insisted Khashoggi had walked out of the consulate after visiting the building on October 2. His body has not been found, although Turkish police last month searched a forest on Istanbul's outskirts and near Yalova, a city near the Sea of Marmara, for Khashoggi's remains.

LONDON-A month after the killing of Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi, the Trump administration has chose to stand by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, having concluded that he is nearly certain to retain his grip on power despite a growing global consensus that he bears responsibility for the killing, officials familiar with the deliberations said. The Saudi attorney general has since acknowledged that Khashoggi was killed in a premeditated murder.

Turkish investigators continue to look for clues to the whereabouts of his body. A critic of the Saudi royal family, Khashoggi had been living in exile in the United States.

Interestingly, they also met the heads of Saudi Arabia's so-called Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal) and the Muslim World League.

Bin Salman has told President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to whom he is close, that low-level officials who had gone rogue had killed Khashoggi.

Saudi Arabia has denied the reports in the Washington Post and New York Times.

Besides providing "enormous opportunities" for American "wealth generation", the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia remains a "solid partner" in the USA effort to "change" Iran's behavior, Pompeo said.

After the statement was released, a Turkish official told the Washington Post -- for which Khashoggi was a contributor -- that authorities are investigating a theory the body was destroyed in acid, either in the consulate or the Saudi consul's nearby residence.

The Saudis have given a shifting account of what happened to Khashoggi on October 2.

One Israeli official said, "Saudi Arabia is a very important state in the region, and Israel and other nations have a major interest in ensuring its continued stability".

"Despite our well-intentioned efforts to reveal the truth, no concrete results have come out of those meetings", the Istanbul chief prosecutor's office said, adding that it was in this light that it had been "obliged" to share the details about how Khashoggi was strangled and his body "dismembered and destroyed", in accordance with plans made in advance.
