Caravan Migrants Tell MSNBC, 'We Want To Go Home'

Mexico gets first leftist leader after 32 years of technocrats

Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray said on Wednesday that his country has repeatedly refused U.S. requests to force Central American migrants to seek asylum in Mexico, claiming the caravan has a right to seek asylum in the US.

A "handful" of Central American migrants launched a "hunger strike" this week; telling reporters they're protesting the Mexican authorities now blocking them from reaching the United States border.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to "permanently" close the US' southern border if Mexico does not deport 7,000 Central Americans from the border city of Tijuana.

That didn't turn out to be the case; it appears numerous members of the "migrant caravan" were sold a bill of goods, and are just coming to realize that crossing the border will be much more hard than they imagined, particularly in light of the weekend's violence.

The migrant "caravan" - around 5,000 people are now camped out in increasingly unsanitary conditions in Tijuana, waiting to apply for asylum in the United States, tear gassed by U.S. border police - will dominate their early discussions.

On Thursday, as a steady rain fell and partially flooded the sports complex serving as the main shelter, it was Mexican police who stopped more than a dozen migrants from the caravan approaching the nearby El Chaparral border crossing.

"Why are (the police) treating us like this if we're not causing them or the Mexican people any trouble?" he said.

Whatever one thinks of what Trump says or tweets, particularly about his hope to build a massive border wall, it doesn't excuse migrants rushing at our border patrol.

"They are in Mexico, waiting to file for [US] asylum". The more violent the confrontations, some feel, the less likely the US government will look kindly on their plight.
