USPS: No mail December 5 to honor former President George HW Bush

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania paid their respects Monday to late president George HW Bush, whose remains lay in state in the US Capitol.

Q. Will there be mail delivery on the National Day of Mourning on Wednesday?

Trained to assist United States army veterans as part of the VetDogs programme, Sully was joined by several army veterans - some of who were in wheelchairs from injuries incurred during their time in action - and one of the late president's sons, Neil Bush. Trump then saluted Bush, a gesture belying the history of antipathy between the Republican president and the Bush family.

People with knowledge of the funeral plans for former President George H.W. Bush reportedly say the proceeding will focus on his life, rather than becoming a politically-charged event. Three former presidents looked on at Washington National Cathedral as a fourth - George W. Bush - eulogized his dad.

On Wednesday morning, a military band played "Hail to the Chief" as Bush's casket was carried down the steps of the U.S. Capitol, where he had lain in state.

Bush, who served as the 41st US president between 1989 and 1993, died on November 30th at the age of 94.

Like Bush, the former Republican senator is a war hero and served with distinction in World War II.

Despite the glowing remarks he made in his statements and tweets after Bush's death, Trump has publicly derided the Bush's and their leadership.

Trump is scheduled to attend a state funeral Wednesday at Washington National Cathedral -the first presidential funeral since Gerald Ford died in 2006.

The dog was assigned earlier this year as a service dog to Bush, who used a wheelchair in the last years of his life.

Among them was the former US President's prominent friend - Sully, his service dog.

Fred Curry, one of the few African-Americans in line, is a registered Democrat from Hyattsville, Maryland, who voted for Bush in 1988, the election won by the one-term president.

On Thursday, Bush will be interred at the George HW Bush Presidential Library Center in College Station, Texas, next to his wife Barbara, who died in April, and their daughter Robin who died of leukaemia at age three. "Honestly I just liked him", he said.

Inside the Capitol, Sully, the 2-year-old Labrador retriever assigned to Bush, sat by the casket in the company of people who came to commemorate Bush's signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the 1990 law that, among its many provisions, required businesses that prohibit pets to give access to service dogs. The late President Bush called Trump a "blowhard".

House Speaker Paul Ryan alluded to that political setback in his Capitol remarks and said Bush handled defeat with grace.
