Apple iPhone XI to come with three cameras on back

This may be the new 2019 iPhone Xi

Check out that triple camera setup.

The array is not too dissimilar to what can be found on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, but the lenses aren't lined up in a square format but instead make an interesting triangular formation.

Apple already uses a ToF proximity sensor in the TrueDepth camera unit launched with the iPhone X, which helps with the company's Face ID technology.

The assembly will also include an LED flash and rear facing microphone.

Apple leaks are rare, but new renders have appeared purporting to show the 2019 iPhone - or iPhone XI - as it's being called.

However, we're still at least nine months away from Apple's annual iPhone reveal, so take these images with a pinch of salt. There are two cameras aligned vertically like the iPhone XS, but there will also be a third camera placed between the two, on the side.

Apparently this year Apple will be adopting the triple-camera setup on the iPhones. The cameras and LED flash are arranged in a squircle positioned in the top left corner of the phone.

Apple is said to have three new iPhones it'll launch this year, and it's unclear which one these renders show.

Some previous rumors suggest that the third camera will be a 3D ToF sensor, but it's still all speculations for now.

A further tweet from @OnLeaks claims that the 2019 phones are still undergoing the Engineering Validation Test (EVT): there could be major changes by the time the phones officially launch in September. However, it is likely that this is one of the most powerful models.

The ToF or Time of Flight technology is based on the time it takes for light to bounce off an object to create a 3D map. Tipster OnLeaks and Digit India published a bunch of renders yesterday of what might be the iPhone XI, which you can see above and below.
