Huawei apparently fines employees $700 per month for iPhone blunder

China Takes Wind Out Of Apple iPhone Sales

What happened? Huawei posted a New Year's tweet from the official Twitter account - but from an iPhone. However, despite the calls for a boycott, it appears Huawei has forgotten to instruct its public relations representatives about it because they were caught using an iPhone.

A number of Chinese companies have announced corporate policies in support of Chinese tech giant Huawei's products while shunning Apple's iPhones since Huawei's chief financial officer was arrested in Canada earlier this month on suspicion of fraud. After the arrest, Nikkei reported that Chinese companies were instructing their staff to boycott the iPhone. In October, reports revealed that Samsung took legal action against its brand ambassador in Russian Federation. However, the response seems over the top, especially when you consider that it was devised as a workaround to deal with an unforeseen technical issue involving a outsourced company.

According to the publication, responsible for missing employees were demoted, and their salaries reduced by 5 thousand yuan (730 dollars).

It might also have further ruffled feathers in Shenzhen after a number of popular United States blogs, including 9to5mac, picked up on and ran with the since-deleted tweet, marked "via Twitter for iPhone".

The pair could have got away with the contentious act, but the tweet sent from Huawei's account wishing its followers a "Happy #2019" was marked "via Twitter for iPhone".

This is not the first time Huawei has made this mistake. The idea that people who use an iPhone are now seen as "traitors" in certain circles in China is disturbing.

It is not the first time use of the Apple product has given cause for embarrassment. The tweet was later removed, and she claimed that her account had been hacked. This Sputnik writer knows which they would take (it's not the Apple). And now that Twitter has brought back the source information onto its mobile apps (not the website, unfortunately), that is likely only going to make it easier for others to find out whether it was tweeted from an Android smartphone or an iPhone.
