Warriors won't match Cavs' offer sheet for Patrick McCaw

Warriors

The Warriors can waive McCaw by January 7 if they don't wish to match Cleveland's offer.

The Golden State Warriors did not match the Cleveland Cavaliers' offer sheet for restricted free agent Patrick McCaw, parting ways with the third-year forward after only two seasons with the team.

A league source told ESPN it is a non-guaranteed, two-year deal worth $6 million.

The 23-year-old McCaw had been expected to be in the defending National Basketball Association champion's rotation this season but didn't re-sign with the team as a restricted free agent.

McCaw can not get traded this season once his contract becomes guaranteed after January 7th.

McCaw was looking for a bigger offer from the Warriors this summer and did not receive one from the team or elsewhere until Cleveland's offer sheet. Signing McCaw would also fill the 15th spot on the Warriors roster with DeMarcus Cousins nearing a return. Nothing against Golden State, front office, coaches, players, the environment, it had nothing to do with any of that.

In two seasons with the Warriors, McCaw, who played his college ball at UNLV, averaged four points per game while playing 16 minutes off the bench a night.
